Become one with Earth's gravity and melt into the ground

Philosophy

The expression "resting your body on the futon" is incorrect. More precisely, you become one with Earth's gravity.

We normally live "fighting" gravity. Standing, sitting, walking—all are made possible by muscle tension resisting gravity. But at night, when you lie down on the futon, you can end that battle. Gravity is not an enemy. It is a maternal force gently drawing you toward Earth's center.

NEDO practitioners refine this act of "surrendering" to its ultimate form.

First, completely release the strength from your limbs. Arms fall naturally onto the futon, legs spread limply. Jaw strength, forehead strength—release everything. Then, sharpen the sensation of melting into the futon as if you've become liquid.

At this moment, you're not "losing to gravity." You're cooperating with it. By stopping resistance, your body becomes part of Earth. The mattress surface is the ground, your body weight is the land's weight, and your breathing resonates with the pulse of the earth.

The secret of surrendering to gravity is not "releasing strength" but "feeling weight". Vividly feel the mass your body possesses. The weight of your head, shoulders, hips, feet. Entrust all of it to Earth.

When you reach this state, you are no longer "a human on a bed." You are a still existence fused with the land. There is no longer any resistance to sleep.

Muscle Relaxation and Parasympathetic Nervous System Activation

  • <strong>Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)</strong>: Techniques for consciously releasing muscle tension are also used in insomnia treatment. Surrender to Gravity Practice Steps

  1. <strong>Basic Posture</strong>: Lie on your back. Let arms drop naturally to sides, palms can face up or down. Spread legs about shoulder-width, allowing toes to fall naturally outward
  2. <strong>Establish Breathing</strong>: First, take 3 deep breaths. Inhale through nose for 4 seconds, exhale through mouth for 6 seconds. Imagine body tension loosening with each breath
  3. <strong>Head Weight</strong>: Entrust head's weight to the pillow. The weight of the skull, the brain—entrust everything to the pillow. Completely release neck strength
  4. <strong>Shoulder and Arm Weight</strong>: Release shoulder strength, feel shoulder blades sinking into mattress. Arms are pulled by gravity onto the futon. Release all strength from elbows, wrists, fingertips
  5. <strong>Back and Hip Weight</strong>: Feel each vertebra of your spine touching the mattress. Hip weight spreads onto the futon. Imagine pelvis putting down roots in the ground
  6. <strong>Leg and Foot Weight</strong>: Thighs, calves, ankles, soles. Everything pulled by gravity, sinking. If Earth were transparent, your body would be drawn toward Earth's center
  7. <strong>Whole Body Integration</strong>: Finally, savor the sensation of your entire body as "one heavy mass," melting into the mattress. You are now one with gravity
